About the Journal
Jurnal Hukum Mimbar Justitia (JHMJ) is a peer-reviewed, open access law journal published by Universitas Suryakancana and managed by its Faculty of Law. It publishes research articles and reviews on law in national and international contexts, twice a year in June and December.
Vision and aims
JHMJ aims to be a leading scientific journal for disseminating and developing innovative legal thought. It provides a forum for academics, legal practitioners and researchers to share research results and current thinking across the fields of law.
Focus and scope
JHMJ covers, but is not limited to, constitutional law, criminal law, civil law, business and economic law, international law, environmental law, Islamic law, customary law, health law, law of the sea, and space law. Articles may use a normative juridical (doctrinal) or socio-legal (empirical) approach. The full scope is set out on the Focus and Scope page.
Peer review
Every manuscript is first screened by the editorial board and checked for similarity with Turnitin or iThenticate; manuscripts above 20% similarity are returned to the authors. Suitable manuscripts are then reviewed double-blind by at least two reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision based on the reviewers' reports, normally within four weeks. Open access and copyright
All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication; articles are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
History
The journal began as the Law Journal of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Suryakancana, was later renamed Jurnal Hukum Mimbar Keadilan, and is now published as Jurnal Hukum Mimbar Justitia. Its print ISSN changed from 1693-7546 to 2089-7618 and then to 2477-5681, and the online edition (e-ISSN 2580-0906) began with Vol. 3 No. 1 in June 2017. The journal held SINTA 4 accreditation from 2019 to 2023. In early 2024 the Faculty of Law restructured the journal's management and revised its template and editorial standards to meet current national accreditation requirements.
Ownership and Management Information
JHMJ is owned and published by Universitas Suryakancana and managed by its Faculty of Law; the editors hold full and independent authority over all editorial decisions.
Ownership
- Owner and publisher: Universitas Suryakancana, Jl. Pasirgede Raya, Bojongherang, Cianjur, West Java 43216, Indonesia.
- Managing unit: Faculty of Law, Universitas Suryakancana, which appoints the Editor-in-Chief and provides the journal's staff, infrastructure and operating budget.
- Nature of the journal: a non-profit, university-owned academic journal. It is not owned or controlled by any commercial publisher, and no third party holds rights in the journal title.
Management and governance
- Editor-in-Chief leads the journal, sets editorial policy with the editorial board, and makes the final decision on every manuscript.
- Managing Editors run the editorial workflow: initial screening, similarity checks, correspondence with authors and reviewers, copyediting, layout, DOI registration and publication.
- Editors (editorial board) handle manuscripts in their fields, select reviewers, and advise on editorial policy. Board members come from Universitas Suryakancana and other Indonesian universities.
- Reviewers are independent experts who assess manuscripts double-blind; they are listed on the Reviewers
The publisher does not interfere in editorial decisions. Decisions are based only on scholarly merit, as set out in the journal's Publication Ethics policy, which follows the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Sources of revenue
The journal is funded by Universitas Suryakancana through the Faculty of Law, and by an Article Processing Charge of IDR 500,000, charged only after a manuscript is accepted. There is no submission or review fee. The journal carries no advertising. Revenue sources have no influence on editorial decisions.
