Sebagian besar jenis plankton di perairan Waduk Cirata juga terdapat dalam lambung kijing. Berdasarkan hal ini kijing mampu menyaring partikel-partikel makanan dalam air secara efektif. Peningkatan kedalaman disertai dengan penurunan pertumbuhan, kelangsungan hidup, dan produksi kijing. Penurunan ini diduga karena ketersediaan oksigen yang semakin menurun dengan meningkatnya kedalaman.
Hasil uji statistika menunjukkan bahwa padat tebar memberikan pengaruh tidak berbeda nyata terhadap pertumbuhan, kelangsungan hidup dan produksi kijing. Kedalaman memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda nyata terhadap pertumbuhan, kelangsungan hidup dan produksi kijing.
