Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Media Teknik dan Sistem Industri upholds the integrity of scholarly publishing. Authorship confers academic credit and also carries responsibility and accountability for the published work. Jurnal Media Teknik dan Sistem Industri therefore follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework, and the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Requirements for Authorship

An individual may be listed as an author only if they meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
  2. Drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content.
  3. Gave final approval of the version to be published.
  4. Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work, including ensuring that its accuracy and integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Everyone who meets all four criteria must be listed as an author.

2. Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

The following do not, on their own, justify authorship. Such contributors should be named in the Acknowledgments section, with their consent:

  • routine technical, administrative, or laboratory assistance;
  • provision of funding, facilities, or research materials;
  • holding a position (e.g., head of department, dean, or laboratory head) without a genuine intellectual contribution.

3. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Media Teknik dan Sistem Industri does not tolerate:

  • ghost authorship (omitting individuals who qualify as authors);
  • gift or guest authorship (listing individuals who made no real contribution);
  • the buying, selling, or trading of authorship positions.

4. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is marked with an asterisk (*) in the manuscript and must provide an active telephone/WhatsApp number and email address. The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • communicating with the journal during submission, peer review, and after publication;
  • ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria, have approved the final version of the manuscript, and have agreed on the order of authors;
  • submitting the manuscript through the journal’s OJS platform in accordance with the author guidelines.

5. Author Contribution Statement

Every manuscript must include an Author Contribution Statement based on the CRediT taxonomy, written with author initials (e.g., “ZS: Conceptualization, Methodology; PS: Writing—Original draft preparation; SQ: Writing—Review & Editing”).

6. Changes to the Author List or Author Order

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must:

  • be submitted in writing by the corresponding author to the Editor-in-Chief, with a clear justification;
  • be approved in writing by all authors, including any author being removed;
  • be accompanied by an updated author contribution statement.

Jurnal Media Teknik dan Sistem Industri reserves the right to delay publication until all documentation and approvals have been received in full.

7. Authorship Disputes

Determining who qualifies as an author is the collective responsibility of the authors, not the journal. If a dispute arises, the editorial board may ask the authors’ institution(s) for clarification and will handle the case in line with COPE guidelines.

8. Use of AI Tools

AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work. Any use of AI tools in preparing the manuscript must be transparently disclosed, and the authors remain fully responsible for the content.
