TEACHING INDONESIAN PRESCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT MEDIA LITERACY: DOES IT MATTER RIGHT NOW?

Abstract


Media literacy has been widely recognized as a central element in the development of 21st-century students. Unlike European countries where media literacy has been successfully integrated into their education systems, discussions surrounding media literacy and young students in early childhood education settings in Indonesia have sparked intense debates regarding educational policies and their implementation. The purpose of this article was to emphasize the importance of media literacy as a learning initiative in Indonesian early childhood education schools. This research used A qualitative approach was employed in this article, utilizing a library research method. References were sourced from relevant literature, books, scientific journals, and research reports. The Results is The research findings revealed that media literacy has become a fundamental right for citizens of all ages, including preschool children. As children grappled with numerous choices in media and technology, educators had to equip them with the necessary skills to navigate this digital world. Equipping early childhood children with media literacy skills is a step towards preparing a generation that is capable of harnessing digital technology for a better quality of life.
